Founded more than 200 years ago as a civic foundation, the Staedel still provides an overview of 700 years of European art history. Highlights of the collection include works by artists such as Lucas Cranach, Albrecht Duerer, Sandro Botticelli, Rembrandt van Rijn, Jan Vermeer, Claude Monet, and Ernst Ludwig Kirchner.
